My aunt passed away yesterday, 24 October 2015. She did not have any access to any sort of palliative care. She died at home surrounded by the warmth of her family members.
I wish every terminal illness victim could have access to palliative care and die without suffering from the excruciating pain, waiting for all organs to shut down one after the other.
Even more, I wish every terminal illness victim could have access to euthanasia. I believe this should be a basic human right.
I hope that my aunt did not suffer during her last days on this earth. I hope that one day every patient will have access to palliative care. I hope that one day every one of us can decide when it is time to leave gracefully without any pain.
I leave you with this inspiring story of Odontuya Davaasuren, MD, PhD, Professor President of Mongolia Palliative Care Society – she made Mongolia one of the top developing counties where patients have access to palliative care.
